On Saturday October 3rd, Olga Osiris Ucles, 35 year old mother of 4 children died as a result of a respiratory crisis she suffered after having been exposed to tear gas during a pacific demonstration in front of Radio Globo on Wednesday September 30.
Right now we have gotten word that 200 soldiers from the Honduran military are surrounding the station of Radio Globo. They have managed to continue transmitting via internet, in spite of their equipment being confiscated earlier this week.
At 5:30am this morning 55 campesinos who had been occupying the National Agrarian Institute (INA) were removed from INA and arrested.Right now Berta Oliva from COFEDH is at CODE 7, the facility where the campesinos are being detained, but has not yet been permitted entry
Yesterday at least three people who had been arrested last Tuesday in front of the Brazilian Embassy had hearings today. Included was Augustina Flores, the sister of Berta Casares, who according to medical reports is in a delicate state of health.In spite of her serious health issues, she was sent to the women’s prison until her trial.
Everything is indicating that the coup government is moving forward in a serious way with their threats and demands to the international community and against the Honduran people in particular. Today at noon it was announced that yesterday the Official Daily La Gaceta published an executive decree, signed by Micheletti, his pseudo-ministers which suspends all Constitutional guarantees for 45 days. This decree prohibits all meetings and demonstrations without permission of the military, speak against officials or emit information different than official pronouncements.
The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) strongly condemns the operation by agents of the Honduran de facto regime in the area of the Brazil Embassy in Tegucigalpa. According to the information received, security forces of the de facto regime surrounded the Brazilian Embassy and threw unidentified toxic gases, causing intoxications, bleeding, vomiting and dizziness to the persons inside the diplomatic building.

The repressive police of the de facto regime over which presides Roberto Michellti is spraying chemicals into the interior of the Brazilian embassy where the Constitutional President, Jose Manuel Zelaya Rosales and hundreds of his sympathizers are staying.

On the 80th day of the coup, both the de facto government and the resistance movement against the coup held marches to celebrate the anniversary of Central America’s independence from Spain. At a military parade, de facto President Roberto Micheletti defiantly insisted that it would take a military intervention to remove him. Meanwhile, thousands of coup resisters, with elected President Manuel Zelaya’s wife at the head, marched through the central park of Tegucigalpa, where last month police and military attacked peaceful protesters and passers-by. The massive resistance movement in Honduras continues to grow, denouncing the violent coup as an illegal take over on the part of neocolonial economic and military interests.
We thank everyone for their prayers for the Honduran people, and for our delegation this week. Our delegation will issue a more formal report after we return home, but informal notes follow in order to share a glimpse of what we are experiencing. While we are the sixth delegation in a series of international human rights missions since the coup on June 28th, we are the first religious delegation.
