Translation: National Front's Sunday Morning Communique re elections

"We have verified the failure of the electoral farce given the scarce presence of voters at the polling places, despite the intimidation campaign including the threat of legal repercussions for people who failed to vote and despite the threats of repression in workplaces from the de facto regime as well as private enterprise, for people who fail to prove they had voted. This fact deprives the Supreme Electoral Tribunal of the authorization to publish exaggerated results toward the end giving credibility to the electoral farce."

National Front of Resistance Against the Coup d’etat

The National Front of Resistance Against the Coup makes known to the Honduran People and the International Community the following:

From 7:00am-11:00am this morning: We have verified the failure of the electoral farce given the scarce presence of voters at the polling places, despite the intimidation campaign including the threat of legal repercussions for people who failed to vote and despite the threats of repression in workplaces from the de facto regime as well as private enterprise, for people who fail to prove they had voted. This fact deprives the Supreme Electoral Tribunal of the authorization to publish exaggerated results toward the end giving credibility to the electoral farce.

This [commitment to boycott the elections] is an indicator of the level of maturity that the Honduran people have acquired in recognizing that those who have called for this illegitimate electoral process are themselves the primary obstacle to democracy. The Frente congratulates all those who have voluntarily adhered to its call for a “popular curfew,” which is in place to withdraw consent of the electoral farce executed by the dictatorship, and congratulates The Morazan People for its dignified and courageous attitude and we invite you to remain strong and alert in this dignified posture until the coup manipulation has been definitively overcome.

We formally denounce before the Honduran People and the International Community that the repressive forces of the usurping government have continued their campaign of terror against those of us who have opposed this coup d’etat, which have since last night committed arbitrary raids of the offices of popular organizations, private homes, police intimidation of popular neighborhoods and communities which are bastions of the Resistance, military blockades against union offices, and the blocking of roads and highways with intimidating checkpoints.

We are grateful for the solidarity of our Central American neighbors for their courage in blocking the Panamerican Highways in rejection of the coup regime’s elections. We also thank the international community present here through different solidarity organizations to guarantee the respect of human rights.

We resist and we will win.
