Just released letter to Clinton from 27 Congresspeople
Hot off the presses, there’s a new letter just out to Sec. of State Hillary Clinton on human rights violations in Honduras. It comes from 27 US congressmen who, contrary to the Secretary’s statements in Lima earlier this month, maintain that "political violence continues to wrack Honduras" one year after the June 28, 2009 coup. According to the legislators, they write to:
The National Popular Resistance Front (FNRP) expresses it’s support for the Commission of Truth promoted by the Human Rights Platform of Honduras.
The National Resistance Front is looking for truth, the application of justice and the restitution for the victims who have had their human rights violated during the de facto regimes that were imposed by force subsequent to the military coup d’état on June 28, 2009.

Brussels, 15 June 2010 (ITUC OnLine): Honduras is immersed in a very worrying spiral of violence, and the international trade union movement remains on the alert for human rights violations. Being a trade unionist or part of the Resistance Front implies major risks in the Honduras of today. Various trade union and community leaders have faced death threats and attempts on their lives over recent weeks.

It is early on Friday morning. I’m hoping I can post something while I’m at the radio this morning. I won’t have a chance again until Monday, since this afternoon I leave for El Aguan for a weekend of workshops on political formation with a team from ERIC (Team for Reflection, Research and Communication). Aguan has been involved in a protracted land struggle so it should be an interesting trip. It is inspiring to meet people who are committed and savvy and giving their all to defend their rights.
Clinton Urges OAS to Forget Coup, Readmit Honduras

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton speaking at the Organization of American States (OAS) annual meeting in Lima, Peru on Monday urged countries in the hemisphere to readmit Honduras into the regional organization. The OAS suspended Honduras after the military coup which overthrew President Manuel Zelaya last June.

COFADEH Alert: Armed Men Break into Union Center in San Pedro Sula Wouding One Person
The Committee of the Families of the Disapeared Detainees in Honduras, COFADEH, urgently alert the national and international community of the serious events which occurred this afternoon against the Union of Workers in the Beverage Industry (STYBS).
1. COFADEH received the report of this at 4:30 pm, Tuesday, May 25, 2010: armed men dressed in white shirts, with black pants and caps violently entered STIBYS, and immediately fired on Douglas Gomez who is now in surgery at the Social Security Hospital in San Ped
Urgent Action: Carlos H Reyes receives death threats
On May 20th at 6:00pm Carlos H Reyes, leader of the Honduran Resistance Movement and former Independent Presidential candidate, received a series of death threat on his cell phone. He was able verify that the call came from a land telephone in Tegucigalpa. The number was 226-9965.
The caller issued the following threat in a gruff voice: "We are going to take your head off (expletive), you have a very few days left to live."
