Cilnton in Central America for Regional Security Meeting

The five presidents of Central America along with the presidents of Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Mexico and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will meet in Guatemala June 21-23 to discuss regional cooperation against organized crime. With Honduras allowed to rejoin the Central American Integration System (SICA), this will be the first meeting including all the presidents of Central America since the coup in Honduras almost two years ago.

International Networks denounce the continuation of murders and other serious human rights violations in Aguán

Friday, 17 June 2011 – Dina Meza. International networks that participated in the International Investigation Mission to the Bajo Aguán region, February 25 – March 4th, 2011 issued a public statement today speaking out against the violence and impunity in the Valle del Bajo Aguán, where the assassination of peasants and other serious human rights violations continue.

Zacate Grande Peninsula: Update

June 2011 – For the fourth time in two months, Pedro Canales Torres, president of ADEPZA (Association for the Development of the Zacate Grande Peninsula) suffered an attempt on his life.  As he was heading out to San Lorenzo with his family, he realized that something was wrong with his car. Stopping to explore the problem, he saw that someone had placed barbed wire around the front wheels.
