The Global Climate Risk Index 2013 analyses to what extent countries have been affected by the impacts of weather-related loss events (storms, floods, heat waves etc.). The most recent available data from 2011 as well as for the period 1992-2011 were taken into account.

Zacate Grande Peninsula: Update

June 2011 - For the fourth time in two months, Pedro Canales Torres, president of ADEPZA (Association for the Development of the Zacate Grande Peninsula) suffered an attempt on his life.  As he was heading out to San Lorenzo with his family, he realized that something was wrong with his car. Stopping to explore the problem, he saw that someone had placed barbed wire around the front wheels.

Honduras Accompaniment Project Update: Police repress protesters across the country

As this is being written, at 11:00 AM on March 18, 2011, police and military are violently evicting teachers from the National Teacher's Pension Institute (INPREMA), which they have been occupying for two weeks protesting the new General Education Law, which teacher's associations believe to be a legal mechanism to move towards the privatization of all levels of education in Honduras, and demanding the government pay a debt of approximately 1,500 million lempiras (approx. 80 million USD) which it owes the pension fund.
