CIVIC COUNCIL OF POPULAR AND INDIGENOUS ORGANIZATIONS OF HONDURAS (COPINH)
Impunity and Human Rights Violations Reign in Honduras
The Civic Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (COPINH) makes the following declaration in view of the sistematic repression and human rights violations which have been manifested recently through the following condemnable acts:

The assasination of Nery Orellana, community broadcaster, manager of Joconguera Community Radio and correspondent with Radio Progreso, who was killed by multiple bullet wounds on Thursday, July 14th in the municipality of Cadelaria in the department of Lempira.

The assasination of our Luis Alonso Ortiz, president of the Marañones peasent cooperative, and Constantino Morales, director of the Isla I peasent cooperative. Both were leaders of the “Left Bank” (Margen Izquierda) of the Unified Campesino Movement of the Aguan (MUCA), and these assasinations bring the total number of murders by hired criminals believed to be connected with business magnate Miguel Facusse and other large landowners in the region to 45.

Faced with constant death threats, citizens connected with the popular resistance movement for the refoundation of Honduras continue to leave the country. This list now includes Father Fausto Milla and his assistant Denia Mejía.

The detention of Enrique Flores Lanza, former Minister of the Presidency under the constitutional government led by Manuel Zelaya Rosales, member of the Political Commission of the National Front of Popular Resistence (FNRP), and party to the Cartegena de Indias Accords. This is no less than “judicial work for hire” that reflects the political persecution carried out by those behind the coup, who continue to control the powers of the state.

The detention of Carlos Amador, environmentalist and leader of the Siria Valley, who was freed, but along with many other leaders in the region who also oppose mining giant Entre Mares, has charges pending against him for opposing forestry exploitation that will further devastate life in that region of Honduras.

Impunity and injustice against Edwin Róbelo Espinal, victim of numerous detentions, threats and torture carried out by repressive state forces. Edwin remains in a state of defencelessness before the justice system along with its other victims.

New threats of community evictions and legal proceedings against dozens of peasents on the peninsula of Zacate Grande who are struggling to preserve the lands where they were born and continue to live.

The repeated deportation of catholic priest Andrés Tamayo, who has struggled for the defense of community forests in the department of Olancho and against the coup d’état.

The murder, under suspicious circumstances, of singer and popular movement activist Daniel González, better known as Jeronimo.

Concessions of natural resources of various indigenous communities in Honduras in the interest of the construction of hydroelectric dams, mineral exploitation, tourism investments, charter cities, forestry exploitation, privatization of forests for carbon capture (REDD) and the sale of oxygen, and other capitalist projects. All this has been done without consultation, and with or without decree work is being carried out towards these ends, all in clear violation of Convention 169 of the ILO, the historic rights and autonomy of Indigenous Peoples, and various community and municipal agreements that express the clear rejection of these projects of domination and looting. We denounce that the responses of the community when faced with this have been met with militarization, threats, arbitrary detentions and other persecution.
While the human rights violations and repression persist, those responsible for the coup d’état continue to calmly occupy their positions of power and enjoy the privileges of private security for themselves and their families, security which costs the state of Honduras millions of lempiras and includes designing strategies of persecution against victims.
COPINH denounces these acts and warns that the situation in Honduras is getting worse and there exists very real possibilities for it to culminate in further crimes – the political crisis is already at the point in which the President is denouncing death threats.
COPINH urges the international community to remain alert to the events in Honduras and to demand an end to the repression and human rights violations.
COPINH expresses its solidarity with all brothers and sisters who suffer repression as a result of their struggles and makes a call to the international community to strengthen its solidarity with the Honduran people.
COPINH holds the Organization of American States (OAS) responsible as an accomplice in human rights violations since the state of Honduras was reincorporated into its membership, despite not having demonstrated any advances in the defence of and respect for human rights and, on the contrary, continuing policies of repression.
Finally, COPINH makes a call for unity in the struggle of the Honduran people, so that we do not remain defenseless in the face of brutal repression and human rights violations.

EN HONDURAS REINA LA IMPUNIDAD Y LAS VIOLACIONES A LOS DERECHOS HUMANOS.
El Consejo Cívico de Organizaciones Populares e Indígenas de Honduras COPINH se pronuncia ante la sistemática represión y violaciones a los derechos humanos, misma que en estos últimos días se ha expresado en hechos condenables como los siguientes:

Asesinato del comunicador social, gerente administrativo de la Radio Comunitaria Joconguera y corresponsal de Radio Progreso, compañero Nery Orellana, quien fue acribillado a tiros el día jueves 14 de julio municipio de Candelaria Lempira.

Asesinato de los compañeros Luis Alonso Ortiz, presidente de la empresa campesina la Marañones y Constantino Morales, directivo de la empresa campesina la Isla I, ambos dirigentes del Movimiento Campesino Unificado del Aguan de la Margen Izquierda, estos asesinatos se suman a los más de 45 ejecutados por los sicarios vinculados al magnate Miguel Facusse y otros terratenientes y palmeros de la región.

Ante las constantes amenazas a muerte, siguen saliendo del país ciudadanos y ciudadanas vinculados y vinculadas al movimiento de resistencia popular por la refundación de Honduras, entre los que están el sacerdote católico Fausto Milla y la compañera Denia Mejía.

Encarcelamiento de Enrique Flores Lanza ex ministro de la presidencia del gobierno constitucional dirigido por Manuel Zelaya Rosales, miembro de la comisión política del Frente Nacional de Resistencia Popular e integrante del acuerdo de Cartagena de Indias, lo que no es más que el sicariato judicial que refleja la persecución política de los golpistas, quienes siguen y controlan los poderes del estado.

Detención del Carlos Amador dirigente ambientalista del Valle de Siria, quien fue liberado, pero sigue procesado junto a otros dirigentes que se oponen a la mortal empresa minera “Entre Mares” y a la explotación forestal que devasta la vida de esa parte del territorio hondureño.

Impunidad e injusticia total contra el compañero Edwin Róbelo Espinal, víctima de innumerables detenciones, amenazas y tortura por parte de las fuerzas represivas. El compañero Edwin permanece en indefensión ante la decadencia del poder judicial, como todas las demás víctimas.

Nuevas amenazas de desalojo de comunidades y procesos judiciales en contra de decenas de campesinos y campesinas en Zacate Grande, quienes luchan por preservar sus tierras en donde han nacido y viven.

Nueva expulsión del sacerdote católico Andrés Tamayo, quien ha luchado por la defensa de los bosques de las comunidades de Olancho y contra el golpe de estado.

En condiciones sospechosas muere asesinado el compañero cantautor y militante del movimiento popular Daniel González, más conocido como Jerónimo.

Se han concesionado los bienes naturales de varias comunidades indígenas de Honduras para hacer represas, para la explotación minera, inversiones turísticas, ciudades modelo, explotación forestal, privatización de bosque para el gran negocio por venta de oxigeno y captura de carbono (REED) y otros proyectos capitalistas, todo ello sin hacer ninguna consulta, con o sin decretos ejecutan trabajos para tal fin y en clara violación al Convenio 169 de la OIT sobre Pueblos Indígenas, a los derechos históricos y de Autonomía, a los diferentes acuerdos comunitarios y municipales que expresan el claro rechazo a estos proyectos de dominación y saqueo y denunciamos que ante los reclamos de las comunidades se ha respondido con militarización, amenazas, detenciones arbitrarias y persecución.
Mientras las violaciones a los derechos humanos y la represión continúan, los responsables del golpe de estado se pasen tranquilos en sus puestos de poder y gozando de los privilegios de tener hasta seguridad personal y familiar en la que el estado de Honduras invierte varios millones de lempiras, es mas diseñan estrategias de persecución judicial contra las víctimas.
El COPINH denuncia estos hechos y advierte que la situación en Honduras tiende a agudizarse y existen posibilidades reales de que se pueda desembocar en mayores crímenes ya que la crisis política se profundiza hasta el punto de que el titular del ejecutivo esta denunciando amenazas a muerte.
El COPINH urge a la comunidad internacional a mantenerse pendiente de los acontecimientos y a exigir el cese de la represión y las violaciones a los derechos humanos.
El COPINH se solidariza con todos los hermanos y hermanas que sufren represión a causa de sus luchas y a la comunidad internacional hace un llamado a fortalecer la solidaridad con el pueblo hondureño.
El COPINH responsabiliza a la Organización de los Estados Americanos OEA de ser cómplice de las violaciones a los derechos humanos ya que reincorporó al estado de Honduras, pese a no demostrar ningún avance en la defensa y respeto a los derechos humanos y muy por el contrario se continúa con la política de represión.
Finalmente el COPINH hace un llamado a la unidad y a la lucha del pueblo hondureño para no seguir indefensos frente a la brutal represión y violación a los derechos humanos.
