Amnesty International just released the following alert (PDF) alert regarding the killing of Juan Angel Lopez Miralda in the community of Rigores in Tujillo noting that others in the community could be at risk.
This weekend, Jose Angel Corrales Perez, from the rural community of El Lagartillo, in northwestern Nicaragua will be on stage at the SOAW vigil in Fort Benning Georgia. A gifted musician, Jose is a member music group Los Rusticos del Norte, which has won local and national musical competitions and is recognized for its performance of original music. He is proud of his campesino roots, and his courageous community.

UNITED NATIONS, Sep 17 2014 (IPS) – World leaders gathered at the Climate Change Summit during the United Nations General Assembly on Sep. 23 will have a crucial opportunity to mobilise political will and advance solutions to climate change.
They will also need to address its closely connected challenges of increasing access to sustainable energy as a key tool to secure and advance gains in the social, economic and environmental realms.
