Shadow Hearing on moral and legal issues related to US blockade of Cuba

The humanitarian crisis in Cuba continues to deepen as the U.S. escalates pressure.  On September 2nd, Representatives Ramirez and Omar hosted a  Shadow hearing on the Moral and Legal Issues Related to the United States’ blockade of Cuba to examine the legal and moral implications of U.S. policy and raise awareness about ways to save lives and end extreme human suffering caused by the blockade through legislation currently before Congress. They were joined by 5 other members of Congress and three expert witnesses.

The Shadow Hearing took place in the context of increased concerns regarding escalation of US aggression in Latin America, including Nicaragua and the criminalization of solidarity.

“May we not remain silent at a time of injustice and what feels like a quiet genocide on the Cuban people. We will end this blockade. It’s the responsibility of Congress to do its darn job to end it.” Rep. Ramirez
