This week, the State Department released a video that aggressively spotlights an intensified Monroe/Donroe Doctrine under the Trump administration stating “American dominance in the Western Hemisphere will never be questioned again”.
Congresswoman Ramirez, responded stating “What a cheap piece of imperialist propaganda… The Monroe Doctrine’s legacy is political instability, deep poverty, extreme migration, and colonialism throughout Latin America and the Caribbean…. It is well past time we change our approach.”
For decades, the Friendship Office has documented the devastating impacts of U.S. policy of domination in Central America and advocated for policies of friendship and peace.
Representatives Ramirez and Velazquez are co-leaders of House Resolution 1056 calling for the U.S. to annul the Monroe Doctrine and to change course. They describe the “Donroe Doctrine” as a “grotesque version of the interventionist policies that have failed us for two centuries.”
They point to recent aggressive actions including the illegal military operation in Venezuela, the blockade on Cuba and pardon and release of convicted drug trafficker and former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández.”
Please join them and 18 co-sponsors in calling for a profound change of course and to Annul the Monroe Doctrine.
