Delegation of Churchwomen to Honduras, Dec. 5-11, 2015

The Friendship Office closes this year leading a pilgrimage of 12 women to Honduras in collaboration with the Sisters of Mercy Institute Justice Team.  Mercy Sisters and Institute Justice Team Director, Jean Stokan will travel first to El Salvador to commemorate the four church women murdered there in December, 1980.  This December, we carry the spirit of Maura, Ita, Dorothy and Jean with us to Honduras.

Honduras is now the most dangerous country in the world to be a journalist, an environmental defender…and, according to a recent study, a woman.

A Delegation Report will be published after the trip: available on the Friendship Office and Mercy, Institute Justice websites.

In a newly published book, Honduras in Dangerous Times: Resistance and Resilience, Dr. James Phillips writes: "In Honduras, people are building their vison of the future, as if in defiance of the reality that is around them.  This can be an enormously dangerous enterprise.  But Hondurans say that not to, would be even more costly."  James Phillips

We look forward to sharing our Delegation Report with you shortly.
